Bezerk BLOG - (aka adventures of Paul Sims)

20th Oct...Sunday was a good ride. Left home around 4:15am off to Sam's place for a 5:00 start from his place...got there with a couple of mins to spare! From his place off to the servo at the base of the Westgate to apparently meet the team. We got there about 20mins after the agreed start time but didn't look hard enough...we'd assumed they had gone and took off like cut cats...all the way to Geelong at 35 - 40kph with a few guys helping the progress and eventually a large group we hitched onto.

Assuming we had missed them, we shivered in Geelong waiting around 30mins for them to ride by, thank fnck I spotted them ride past as they had planned to stop elsewhere! So finally in the group for a more leisurely pace until we stop at the next checkpoint...then Sam discovers he has lost his number so no ferry pass etc...so Sam and I hightail it down to Queenscliff incase there is some hoops to jump through to get on the ferry.

Fortunately no hoops and once the team arrived we were on the ferry straight away with lunch in hand, the smoothest trasition yet and with a pretty good feed!

A myriad of flat tyres seemed to abound, fortunately I wasn't one of them! I helped a couple of team members out and dragged them back to the team that was waiting on the top of the Mt Martha climb. We then cruised from there to Frankston. If you've seen the news you'd have heard about the guy colliding with the road/armco down Oliver's Hill, a big pool of blood around there I tell you! As you come down the hill there is a pull out area/viewing stop, they were detouring us through this as it happened about half way along...OUCH!

I then got the opportunity to lead the guys from somewhere after Frankston to a stop somewhere before Blackrock...we whipped up the pace a little and we were on course for a much better finish time than last year, although at our last stop we had to wait a while for the team members we had tailed off the back...well maybe the pace was more than a little bit higher ;o)

The last couple of kays are always frustratingly bad, they really need to find a new finish closer to Beach rd...we were there about 2hrs earlier than last year, some better organisation and a more consistent team helped here, well and a tailwind rather than the roaring Northerly of last year!

From there it was handshakes all round and I headed off home, bikepath to Toorak Rd/Burwood Hwy that I rode home along...lots of hills...no servo stops this time, so enough fuel consumed during the day :o) The Garmin battery died somewhere after I took off from the finish line 249.8 at this point, so estimate around 280 - 290km for the day. Another Bay in a Day successfully completed.

6th Oct...A day of 3's...

Up at 3:00 and out the door at 3:30. Met up with Chris where we proceeded over the Dandenongs and out toward Seville, it was definetely less than 3 degrees out that way snap frozen on your bike wasn't the most pleasant way to spend your Sunday morning!

After Chris and I had climbed and descended for some time, it was time to bid him goodbye and head off toward the city. Happened to chance across 3 recumbent friends at St.Kilda pier and stop and have a quick chat.

From there it was onto Mornington and back where the conditions were superb, 30+ kph in both directions due to the lack of wind, truly a pleasure this time around which is saying alot for this usually uninspiring run.

Back in toward St.Kilda again I make my way toward the bikepath for some time away from the cars and head out toward Kew etc. I get toward Boxhill and have to find an alt route as I've not brought enough calories with me, time for the 3C hit, choc, chips and Coke!

Back along Whitehorse, Middleborough and Burwood Hwy to home where I'd gained 3 pains, knees, neck and backside...313km, over 3,000m at 26.3kph...could say it was a big day, ha ha ha!

Pics below of the new wheels, just in case you missed them last month!

Some sweet bling, note the hidden spoke nipples, disc brake only rim, 25mm depth...

Welcome to the Home of Bezerk Cycles

At Bezerk Cycles I strive to provide a service that many others don't provide, from servicing to problem solving, part sourcing, custom build ups, custom frames, modifications, TIG and OXY welding, refinishing, machining and wheelbuilding.

A life long experience with bikes and welding, there's not much that I haven't had a go at making or modifying. Specializing in Cromoly, I have done various projects in aluminium.

The current passion is single speed mountain bikes. I am currently working to have a line of off the shelf frames made to my specs that cater for both single speed and geared applications. Check out the Products page for more info...

I am currently working on a wide array of custom projects, hope to add some pics as they are created.
